Managed by Harry S. Gump, followed by Don and Dotty Gump, Smiling Scot opened in 1932 selling household cleaning products under the name. Later, it operated as a wholesale outlet located on land in the Northwest Boulevard Co. subdivision in Columbus, Ohio. The building still stands at 1266 Goodale Boulevard and became occupied by Metro Industries in 1966.

Colourpicture Publishers of Massachusetts was a major printer and publisher of linen postcards and view-cards of the U.S. from 1938-1969. They later went on to publish photochromes and small spiral-bound picture booklets under the tradename Plastichrome in the 1950s.
